Logo for the Children of the '90s study, which is also known as Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC).

Based at the University of Bristol, Children of the 90s, also known as Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC), is a world-leading birth cohort study.

Between April 1991 and December 1992 we recruited more than 14,000 pregnant women into the study.

These women, the children arising from the pregnancy and now also their grandchildren have been followed up in detail ever since.

We are now looking to register the Children of the Children of the 90s (COCOs). If you or your partner are an original child and are pregnant or have children, then please get in touch!

Current research

We have a range of clinics and sub studies taking place at present which involve all different groups of participants within the study. This currently includes:

  • Questionnaires for particular cohorts and all participants.
  • A cognitive, hearing and vision clinic with eligible original mothers (who we call our G0 mothers).
  • Children of the Children of the 90s clinic (COCOs) which follows new pregnancies and the children of our original participants (who we call our G1 participants).
